YOUR ASA EXPERIENCE

You will receive individualized support from ASA’s advisors and staff throughout your program application process, while you are abroad, and when you return.

Before you depart we will work with you and the staff at your home institution to help you prepare for your time abroad. We are happy to speak with you to discuss ways you can maximize your experience in your host country. You will also receive a detailed pre-departure orientation guide which will help you know what to pack, what to expect when you arrive, and how to stay safe while abroad.

Once you arrive in Barcelona you will participate in our onsite orientation with the other ASA students in your group. ASA’s site director will introduce you to your host city and culture through orientation and multiple events during the program. Our intentionally small group sizes allow ASA’s students to get to know one another and are an aspect of our programs for which our alumni consistently express their appreciation. You will have opportunities to meet other students and lots of new people through your classes, social events and optional language partners.

ASA programs include excursions, volunteer opportunities, housing, meals, academic credits, transcripts, airport pick-up on arrival, medical insurance and more! Contact ASA or your advisor to learn about ASA’s Price Guarantee for all of our programs.

This program takes place at the main campus of the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), called Bellaterra, located about 35 minutes from Barcelona city center. The UAB Bellaterra campus is expansive and green, with 6 nature trails and ample sports facilities. ASA program housing is located in the Barcelona city center, making for a commute of about 35 minutes to the Bellaterra campus. This allows students to enjoy the excitement of living in the city center, as well as a true university campus experience.

One of the biggest advantages of studying at the UAB Bellaterra campus is that ASA students can meet local Spanish students through the Tandem language exchange program and the UAB Buddy Program. Your assigned Spanish-speaking language partner can introduce you to the local culture and help you improve your Spanish!

Course are available in a large variety of subject areas including Geography, Programming, Spanish Language and Culture, Biodiversity, Earth Science, Bioethics, Nanoscience, Marine Science, Entrepreneurship, Social Science and Performing Arts. Click the link at the top of the page to discover the Courses available this summer.

"My time spent abroad was absolutely amazing, and I give
a lot of credit to ASA for making it the best it could be."

- Kara McCrudden, ASA Alumni
