YOUR ASA EXPERIENCE

You will receive individualized support from ASA’s advisors and staff throughout your program application process, while you are abroad, and when you return.

Before you depart we will work with you and the staff at your home institution to help you prepare for your time abroad. We are happy to speak with you to discuss ways you can maximize your experience in your host country. You will also receive a detailed pre-departure orientation guide which will help you know what to pack, what to expect when you arrive, and how to stay safe while abroad.

Once you arrive in Barcelona you will participate in our onsite orientation with the other ASA students in your group. ASA’s site director will introduce you to your host city and culture through orientation and multiple events during the program. Our intentionally small group sizes allow ASA’s students to get to know one another and are an aspect of our programs for which our alumni consistently express their appreciation. You will have opportunities to meet other students and lots of new people through your classes, social events and optional language partners.

ASA programs include excursions, volunteer opportunities, housing, meals, academic credits, transcripts, airport pick-up on arrival, medical insurance and more! Contact ASA or your advisor to learn about ASA’s Price Guarantee for all of our programs.

Barcelona is a world of its own with mixed architecture along both small pathways and large boulevards. Many students are amazed at the opportunities that the city can offer from the shores of the beach to the mountains just beyond there is plenty to discover. Study at Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and learn Spanish in the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. UB was founded in 1450 and is revered as a world-class institution across all of their schools and campuses. The main building where you will take courses is located in the city center, where you will study with classmates from around the world.

This program is suitable for students with an intermediate or higher level of Spanish language. Students will study Spanish grammar and conversation as well as Spanish culture. Electives are taught in Spanish in a number of different subject areas including: Hispanic Studies, Spanish Art History, Culture, Literature, Film, Economy, Society, Spanish for Business, Beginning Catalan Language and Culture. Language level placement exams will be taken at the beginning of the program. A full list of classes for this program can be found on the ASA website through the link at the top of this page.
